Breasts vary naturally in shape, size and
colour. Only if a change is noticed is there
cause a concern. In a normal woman the
nipples of one or both breasts may be
introverted-turned in-and appear to be
absent. Correction of this defect is simple
and allows normal breast-feeding. A doctor
is consulted before treatment for cosmetic
reasons. When to consult the doctor
• As soon as possible when a
lump is found
• At once if there is pain related to
breast-feeding because a breast abscess may
develop.
• If the nipples become cracked, painful and
then inflamed during breast feeding
