Wetting the bed is unusual after the age of
five although one in seven normal children
may still be wetting at this age.
Symptoms
• A wet bed-but
occasionally a child may try to cover up by
hiding pyjamas and sheets.
Duration
• Of those still wet at five 15 per cent
become dry each year. One in 100 18 year
olds still has the problem.
Causes
• Frequently there is no certain
cause-possibly an immaturity of the nerves
controlling the bladder.
• Anxiety, particularly over house moves,
parental arguments.
• Urinary infection
• Excessive punishment.
